Goku used this attack during his battle against 100% Power Frieza on the nearly destroyed Planet Namek. After being elbowed into a cliff by Goku, Frieza attacked and knocked Goku down to the ground before saying he was just a beast. However, Goku stood up and replied he would rather be a brainless beast than a heartless monster like Frieza. An angry Frieza tried to attack Goku again, but Goku dodged the attack and countered with the Meteor Smash rush, smashing Frieza across the ground.

Meteor Smash was named in the Butōden series, where it is a secret attack for Goku and "Super Goku". The attack has resurfaced in the more recent Budokai Tenkaichi series, and is one of Goku's Blast 2 attacks in his Super Saiyan form. However, each game in the series, as well Raging Blast, changes the way the attack is performed. This attack is a part of the Meteor Attacks.
