A Life or Death Battle! Goku and Piccolo's Desperate Attack! (命をかけた闘い! 悟空とピッコロ捨て身の猛攻, Inochi o Kaketa Tatakai! Gokū to Pikkoro Sutemi no Mōkō) is the third episode of Dragon Ball Z Kai. It originally aired on April 19, 2009. It was released uncut in the first season box set on May 18, 2010, and aired edited on Nicktoons on the 25th of May, 2010. Its Dragon Ball Z counterparts are "Piccolo's Plan" and "Gohan's Rage".
Summary[]
Goku sacrifices himself to defeat his brother
Goku and Piccolo are no match for Raditz in direct conflict, so they decide to have Goku distract Raditz while Piccolo gathers energy to perform the Special Beam Cannon, the only attack strong enough to defeat Raditz. Goku tried his best to stall Raditz as Piccolo charges the attack. Raditz easily beats Goku in strength, speed, and power. Goku charges an all-out Super Kamehameha, but even that proved ineffective as Raditz managed to deflect it. Raditz then uses an even stronger Saturday Crush which heavily injures Goku. But before he can make the kill, Raditz reads Piccolo's 1,330 power level. Piccolo launches the attack, and realizing it is too powerful for him to deflect, he dodges the attack. The attack pierced Raditz's shoulder. Piccolo was nearly killed, but before he could complete his attack, Goku weakens Raditz by grabbing his tail. He tries to make Goku release his tail by using brotherly words. Goku's mercy gets the best of him, and Raditz takes the advantage.
Goku and Raditz's deaths
Raditz tortures Goku by crushing his ribs and laughing about his stupidity, causing Gohan to unleash his latent abilities in a fit of rage, and he strikes Raditz in the chest. Gohan used all of his power in the one headbutt and Raditz manages to knock out Gohan. As he was about to kill Gohan, Goku used this opportunity to grab Raditz from behind, allowing Piccolo to use his "Special Beam Cannon" technique on Raditz, killing him as well as Goku. Before he succumbs to his wound, Raditz tells Goku and Piccolo that the other Saiyans will be on Earth to get the Dragon Balls and wish him back within a year. Bulma, Krillin, and Master Roshi arrive shortly to witness Goku's tragic death.
Differences from Dragon Ball Z[]
- When Piccolo lost his arm, his red blood was edited into purple blood.
- In Dragon Ball Z, the scene when Piccolo fires his Makankosappo (Special Beam Cannon), Goku and Raditz have bleeding holes in their chests. In Kai the bleeding holes are edited into burn marks.
Trivia[]
- The bleeding holes were edited out of the episode, but when Goku's body disappears there is a blood stain in the grass.
- In the uncut version, Piccolo says "Die Saiyan! Makankosappo". It has been changed to "Take this Saiyan! Special Beam Cannon!" in the edited TV version.
